About
Welcome to the Lowell Family blog. We’re off on a whirl wind adventure the summer of 2009. We’re packing up our stuff, renting our house in Los Gatos, CA and moving the whole family to Malaga, Spain. We’re going to do our best to capture the good, bad and the ugly aspects of every part of our little sabbatical. Check back often as we’re going to be actively documenting everything, adding photos, videos and a narrative of our experiences along the way. Feel free to comment and provide morale support as we’re probably going to need it at some point.
Thanks for visiting,
Rick, Laura, Taylor and Riley

Rick, God speed to you and the fam!
My dad passed in a similar way, sorry! On the same vein as “chicken soup for the soul”, check out “we are their heaven”. Invite your dad some way to everything you do, fun, food, challenges. You’ll find out he is still very near.
While you continue to work on the language, when you hear anyone at a nearby table with a construction project gone bad, suggest they hire a lean / last planner coach from the US. Um, ME! If I have a billable job, I’ll be there. I’ll even bring you a care package of something you might miss from CA??
Re no visa. Maybe I’m paranoid? Like someone from Turner might be going by the consulate to get Spain’s mail. Nah!!!
Enjoy & happy travels!

Hi Guys,
I am finally catching up with your blog and LOVE reading about your adventures! Happy belated birthday to you both!!
Lots of love,
Debbi and family
Rick & Laura, good seeing you yesterday, under those circumstances. We’ll watch your site for the “news” and interesting reading.
Rick, if you need help with your mothers house, I am unemployed and have a Tahoe to carry things. We’re close so don’t hesitate to call.
With Our Sympathy,
Rich
Rich,
Thanks so much for the thoughts. We’re all trying the best we can to get used to the “new” situation. As for the house, as an FYI, Burt will still be living at Mom’s until he an get his future planned out…a tough thing to do at any age. Our plan is to do “something”, what exactly is still tbd, probaly the end of January. Thanks for the offer fopr help and I’ll let you know if we need any extra hands.
It was good seeing you again too and have a happy holiday season.
Ricardo Eduardo
Hi from Gandia, slightly more north than Malaga! Are you still in Malaga or have you returned to Los Gatos? Did you enjoy Malaga, and the Spanish experience? I am actually living out here now, in the foothills of the Safor mountains. Our house is at the top of the hill with super views over the orange groves and out to the coast and the mountain range on three sides. Am enjoying my life here and hope you managed to enjoy the time you spent/are spending in Malaga !
Moranna, Thanks for visiting the site, and yes, we are still in Malaga for a few more months and then it’s back to the “real world” to save up enough money for the next great adventure! We have absolutley fallen in love with Spain…who wouldn’t? While we smell the ocean mist fresh off the Meditereannean, you are probably smelling the orange blossoms drifting up the hill. Ain’t life grand!
